The mission of Universal Hydrogen ("UH2") is to decarbonize aviation and put the industry on a trajectory to meet Paris Agreement obligations. We address aviation’s existential challenge – reducing carbon emissions while keeping flying affordable. In early 2023, Universal Hydrogen made aviation history with the historic first flight of a 40-passenger seat Dash-8 regional aircraft fitted on one side with our hydrogen fuel cell powertrain. This flight represents the largest aircraft ever to fly powered with a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain, and is also the largest aircraft ever to fly principally on hydrogen power. Note that UH2 provides these powertrains to airlines as a retrofit kit for existing regional aircraft. Because of this approach, we believe it is possible to complete a rigorous certification process, and enter into commercial service by 2026.
One of the most unique aspects of Universal Hydrogen's business model is that we do not require any new and expensive infrastructure. This is because we have made the hydrogen fuel tanks modular, allowing us to fill them offsite and transport them to and from airports with standard delivery trucks. The hydrogen fuel tanks are also able to be loaded on and off aircraft with existing ground handling equipment. Because of this, every airport in the world is now ready to support zero emission hydrogen-powered flight.
