Organization Overview

Founded in 1998, Spatial Informatics Group, LLC (SIG) is composed of a group of scientists with expertise in environmental fields ranging from ecology and forestry to natural resource economics. SIG uses state-of-the-art technology and spatial analytical methods to uncover new insights, develop analytical tools, and provide guidance to tackle challenging problems in greenhouse gas accounting, environmental science, ecosystem services and natural resource management. SIG provides a wide range of geospatial services and products integrated with professional consulting services in areas such as ecology, forestry, risk and hazard management, environmental economics, and urban and regional planning. The people at SIG are experts in using tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, spatial data mining, and dynamic spatial modeling. SIG analysts are also specialists in relevant fields such as sustainable cities, landscape ecology and forestry. SIG Developers work with large environmental datasets to house, process, analyze, and present to diverse audiences daily. With experience in closely integrating spatial analysis with substantive research, SIG’s team offers an integrative analytical approach, combining spatial analysis with scientific, ecological and economic knowledge to understand the cumulative effects of management choices on the short and long-term stability of natural resources and ecosystem functions. SIG’s team is fully capable of managing large assignments and has extensive experience employing project management concepts and tools. Partnerships allow SIG to team with some of the top geo-spatial and natural resource scientists in the United States.

SIG can work at all levels of a project. Depending on a client’s needs, SIG can perform discrete tasks, or manage the whole project. We work with clients to answer simple to complex monitoring and research questions using a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach supported by advanced analysis techniques. We have a demonstrated track record of delivering high-quality products within client driven timetables.

Our approach to completing projects:

  • Working closely with clients to clearly articulate tasks and refine the question(s) that need to be answered.
  • Building the most appropriate SIG team and brainstorming appropriate field methods, analytical approaches, data and tools needed to answer the identified question(s).
  • Collecting and quality checking relevant data.
  • Analyzing data using appropriate methods, tools and advanced technologies.
  • Effectively communicating the project’s results, recommendations and considerations with clients and stakeholders.
  • Reporting in a format that is clearly understandable and usable by the client and stakeholders.
  • Maintaining frequent interactions with our clients throughout the progression of the project.
