Planet A Energy is developing a new kind of solar energy system, with the goal of delivering community- and commercial-scale solar energy systems that provide built-in long-duration energy storage with virtually no added cost.
We focus on collection and storage, and seek partners to provide generation from our stored high-temperature heat, and to develop pilot and production projects.
Our systems consist of insulated shipping containers, filled with inexpensive basalt sand. Individual 2-axis concentrating collectors cover the container, protected by a low-profile, rugged "greenhouse roof". The collectors direct heat from the sun into the sand. The walls of the storage container will be insulated, retaining heat for a week or longer. This heat can be converted to electricity on demand by a Stirling engine or other simple heat cycle.
