Climate Resolve advances equitable climate solutions by connecting communities, organizations and policymakers to address a global problem with local action.
Organization Overview

Climate Resolve was founded in 2010, and works to make California more equitable, just, livable, prosperous, and sustainable today and for future generations by inspiring people to reduce climate pollution and prepare for climate impacts. Climate Resolve believes climate solutions must benefit all, especially low-income communities who are most affected by climate change and least able to defend against its impacts. We’re currently working to increase access to public transportation in disadvantaged communities, as well as working with partners to install cool, energy efficient roofs in low-income households.

Climate Resolve’s past successes have included successfully advocating for a cool roofs policy at the City and County of Los Angeles, working with local government and UCLA’s Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences to produce groundbreaking studies on the impacts of climate change at the neighborhood scale in Los Angeles, and helping the Garden Grove Unified School District implement energy-saving and landscape improvements as well as school-wide climate change education events.

The state has turned to Climate Resolve as a key partner as well in developing climate resilience strategies for communities throughout California, for example through its partnership in updating the Safeguarding California Plan. Climate Resolve also serves as a mentor and facilitator of knowledge exchanges around community climate resilience efforts through its role as chair of the Alliance of Regional Climate Collaboratives for Climate Adaptation (ARCCA). Organizational areas of expertise include: climate resiliency, climate mitigation and adaptation, climate financing, land use planning, environmental equity, government processes, stakeholder engagement, transit-oriented strategies, urban greening/cooling, and community co-benefits.

Please describe in your own words your community's needs:
As the impacts of climate change increase in severity, it is apparent that the most vulnerable communities will bear the brunt of them. In Los Angeles, this mainly means extreme heat. In the hottest areas of the county, the number of extreme heat days is projected to double, then triple, in the coming decades. This presents serious public health consequences, as well as economic impacts. We need policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide support for these disadvantaged communities, we need healthier and more equitable access to public transportation, we need to connect residents with low-cost ways to increase energy efficiency and keep their homes and neighborhoods cooler, and we need to increase awareness that climate change is real, and happening NOW in our neighborhoods.
