Cleantech to Market (C2M)–Inspiring Climate Tech Leadership–is a partnership between graduate students, startups, and industry professionals to help accelerate the commercialization of leading cleantech solutions. In the process, C2M also develops the next generation of innovative cleantech leaders.
The result is 1,000 hours of free technology, market, and business model assessment for each project. Students experience the rewards and challenges of taking cleantech to market; startups gain valuable market feedback on their technologies and business plans; and professionals engage with fresh talent and new ideas.
C2M is a Program that supports or has been associated with leading accelerators, incubators, and government programs, including DOE’s ARPA-E, Cleantech Open, Activate, California Energy Commission-supported initiatives like New Energy Nexus/CalSEED, Southern California Energy Innovation Network (SCEIN), Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), Bluetech Valley, and Cleantech San Diego, as well as top-tier universities and national labs like UC Berkeley, Berkeley Lab, Stanford, MIT, and many others. Many of the C2M-supported entrepreneurs have also taken advantage of programs like the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps (I-Corps™) program.
Cleantech to Market (C2M), in its 17th year of accelerating climate tech commercialization, is now accepting applications for promising climate tech startups and their innovations in low-carbon energy, green chemistry, food, and water technologies (covering both mitigation and adaptation) for its fall 2025 cohort.
For the startups selected, most in the DOE TRL 3-6 range (prototype to pilot), C2M will hand-pick and manage interdisciplinary teams—each with 5-6 UC Berkeley graduate students—to identify the most viable initial markets, prospective customers and partners, business models, funding sources, and related strategies, perform techno-economic analyses, assess the competitive landscape, and much more over 16 weeks (from late August through early December 2025)
Cleantech to Market Course (C2M) for Graduate Students:
C2M guides graduate students in the cohort as they identify the most viable initial markets, prospective customers and partners, funding sources, and related strategies in low-carbon energy, green chemistry, food, and water technologies, covering both mitigation and adaptation. View our 2024 cohort. Additional information, including timeline, and application process can be found below. The Cleantech to Market course takes place in the Fall Semester on Tuesdays and Thursday from 11 am to 12:30 pm at Berkeley Haas. For more information please email c2m@berkeley.edu.
