In brief: an overview of Perryman’s Technologies
Perryman has invented, developed & demonstrated—at scale—solutions to several key challenges facing efforts toward the widespread deployment of sustainable energy technology.
Solar Thermal Energy
Solar concentration & capture: cost, efficiency & intermittency improvements
Perryman Full Spectrum Solar™ collects a broad spectrum of Infrared radiation including diffuse and Long Wave Infrared (“IR”) to 12,000 nm in addition to UV, visible, and near-infrared. Furthermore, Perryman uniquely collects IR in almost any atmospheric/dust/weather condition, and Longwave portions of the IR are collected 24x7. These patented advances are made possible by the simple addition of an IR-only gold reflecting layer to the silver layer used today. Due to other innovations in the black body collector & light trap, IR collection is >98% efficient.
Perryman Thermal Battery™: Compact, ultra-high-temperature thermal storage
Long life, rapid response, simple operation, no cycle degradation
Over the past three years, Perryman has demonstrated rapid response, ultra-high-temperature, low-cost thermal storage, collecting highly variable & intermittent power from a North Sea wind farm, as well as the ability to provide transportable seasonal energy storage at grid scale. Perryman stores thermal energy at up to 1,750°C with losses limited to 2%/month without replenishment. These modular, widely-scalable Thermal Batteries™ are based upon a patented adaptation of practice long-proven in the steel industry: waste heat or thermal energy generated using >98% efficient magnetic induction is used to raise the temperature of a metal medium with very high specific heat capacity. Capacities of 40 MWth can be stored in a container the size of a 53’ low-bed transportable intermodal container.
Perryman heat-driven Brayton Cycle Engine retrofit
Improved combustion turbine/combined cycle efficiencies without fuel or combustion
Heat engines have traditionally required fuel combustion to provide the heat to power the cycle. Perryman has patented and demonstrated (up to 1.5 MWe) the use of high-temperature thermal energy as a combustion replacement in “combustion” turbines. Canister heat exchangers are inexpensively field-retrofitted to existing or new turbines to deliver the specified thermal energy required
Perryman Solar Driven Forced Rapid Evaporation
A method to utilize solar-driven combined heat and power for expensive evaporation
Using the phenomena of energizing nanobubble infused water to create microdroplet aerosol with ultrasonic which also provides sterilization. The resultant aerosol is easily evaporated with hot dry air at between 50 & 60◦C and condensing the water vapor with a solar drive non-mechanical absorption chiller. We use molecular sieves and microporous stainless to filter volatiles, hydrocarbons, micro/nano plastic particles & to recover crystalize salt at the point of evaporation. The system can desalinate 500m3 of water daily using only 35W electricity and 62W of thermal energy per meter3 meeting the most stringent EU standards for pure-water. The same system can be used to dewater agricultural and municipal sludge as well as recycling/recovery gray water. This system can produce high-quality sea salts, sterilized fertilizer & soil remediation agents at the same produce inexpensive ultra-pure water
Perryman System Solutions A variety of solutions can be configured from these components. For example, solar thermal collection coupled with thermal storage and heat-driven simple or combined cycle generation delivers completely renewable power, CHP, NWA, capacity, or micro-grid with storage. Alternatively, a system can utilize time-shifted baseload or excess generation. Perryman has also developed an integrated collection-storage- generation system—producing 7 kW or 15 kW continuous–that rolls off of a 20-foot container and operational in 2 hours
