Resumen de la Organización

Lieberman Research Associates has more than 26 patents and 1 patent application and technical paper (July 2019) co-authored with Glosten, Naval/Marine Architects) using Compressed Air Energy Storage to support an off-shore wind farm and other applications. The tech paper shows the comparable Leveled Cost of Storage (LCOS) of our system versus Lithium Batteries. However, our system also supplies a high mass flow of exhaust air at -175 deg F as by-product of electrical power generation (1 MW (thermal) = 1 MW (electrical). This feature was not included in the LCOS calculation. Furthermore, batteries on a barge are a negative compared to floatation provided by the pressure vessels. The cold air can be used for HVAC, cold storage or water purification (Patent application for wastewater purification, July 2020 and earlier versions). The cold air mixed with fresh air to a GenSet (MARS 100) provides 30% reduction in natural gas consumption (Patent).

In another configuration the pressure vessels are stacked next to a building. The system is charged using utility power at night and discharges both electricity and chilled air (HVAC and cold storage) during the day. This system is important to avoid brown outs.

In yet another configuration the pressure vessel is a 10 to 50 mile long pipeline that extends from a wind/solar farm for driving the compressor to a town or city where the air discharge drives either a turboexpander generator set to provide electricity and HVAC or drives a Compander  (two-stage, free-spooling turboexpander coupled to turbocompressors) set to provide HVAC and cold storage but no electricity. In the first application the pipeline is above ground where heat from solar irradiation or heat from wildfires provides more electricity especially when high voltage power lines are typically shut down. Whereas in the latter application the pipeline is below ground to provide maximum thermal chill power especially needed to reduce the Urban Heat Island effect.
A wastewater treatment facility (see photo) was built directed at using the turboexpander cold exhaust air to successfully purify a flow of 13% concentrate salt solutions, out of the range of reverse osmosis systems.
