Descripción

The California Energy Commission’s (CEC) Clean Transportation Program invites applications for a competitive grant opportunity with up to $10 million in funding. This initiative aims to expedite the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) among California Native American tribes by supporting electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, EV infrastructure planning, and EV workforce training and development. Recognizing the potential for tribal energy sovereignty to contribute significantly to the state's climate goals and community resilience, this solicitation targets Tribes, Tribal Organizations, and Tribally-owned businesses.

Three primary project activities are eligible for funding:

- Project Activity 1 – EV Charging Infrastructure: Involves the installation of charging infrastructure for passenger vehicles and medium- to heavy-duty (MDHD) EVs, along with supporting infrastructure and resilience technologies.

- Project Activity 2 – EV Infrastructure Planning: Encompasses activities facilitating tribal participation in future EV funding opportunities and enabling strategic planning for effective EV adoption.

- Project Activity 3 – EV Workforce Training and Development: Supports initiatives focused on careers in EVs, EV infrastructure, and related technologies.

The Clean Transportation Program, established by Assembly Bill (AB) 118 and reauthorized by AB 126, focuses on advancing alternative and renewable fuels and advanced transportation technologies to achieve California's climate change and clean air objectives. With an annual budget of approximately $100 million, the program supports projects that deploy zero-emission technology, produce low-carbon fuels, establish workforce training programs, and promote public outreach on alternative transportation fuels and vehicle technologies.

Dedicated to diversity, the CEC actively engages in outreach efforts to ensure broad participation, encouraging underrepresented groups, including disabled veteran-, women-, minority-, and LGBT-owned businesses. In alignment with their commitment to support California tribal energy sovereignty, the CEC has crafted this grant opportunity following extensive outreach and collaboration with California Native American tribes, including tribal listening sessions held in May and July 2023. The grant not only facilitates meaningful contributions to the state's clean transportation goals but also reflects the agency's commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in program participation.
