BAAEC has 4 features that empower residents to be part of a local energy-producing network where clean energy is affordable and accessible: Community solar, microgrid resiliency hub, advanced energy homes, EV infrastructure + mobility services
Project Description
The project has a number of advanced features: 1) Develops a community solar project and leverages the Community Solar Green Tariff (CSGT) to deliver 100% local renewable electricity at a 20% rate discount for participants 2) Creates advanced energy homes by installing rooftop solar utilizing the DAC-SASH program, locating individual storage batteries at each home that will be managed as a virtual power plant that provides resilience and time-of-use demand shaving and load shifting value and demonstrating a residential electrification strategy through retrofit of electric heat pump water heaters that enable demand response market participation. 3) Establishes a Prosumer Network to demonstrate how blockchain enabled technology can be used to measure, validate, certify and transfer carbon emission credits via simulating how residential customers can produce and sell their outputs in a digital energy market. 4) Installs Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure and develops a zero-emissions transportation program with EV vanpooling and microtranist services that are expected to produce an annual emissions reduction of 30.5 MTCO2e. 5) Develops a Microgrid Resiliency Hub that has both grid-connected and islandable operation modes (up to 4 to 5 hours of stand alone peak electricity demand capacity). The microgrid prioritizes resiliency and becomes an asset to the community during power outages and extreme heat events. The BAAEC project is predicated on breaking down the barriers and reducing the complexity for community-scale clean energy projects. Our project will contribute to accelerated decarbonization and equitable economic benefits for other disadvantaged communities across the state, and will help ensure that they are not left behind in the transformation of our energy future.
